How do I choose the right size seal for my garage door?
Choosing the correct Weather Defender® seal is simple:
- Measure the width between your garage door frame. This will determine the length of seal you need. Our seals are available in a range of pre-cut sizes, or can be trimmed for a precise fit.
- Measure the gap beneath your door. For gaps up to 14mm, choose the Original seal. For gaps up to 24mm or uneven floors, choose the XL seal.
- Consider floor level and condition. If your garage floor is uneven or the gap varies across the width, the XL seal is usually the best option as it offers greater flexibility and compression.

What gap size can the seal cover?
Weather Defender® seals are designed to cover a wide range of gaps between your garage door and floor:
- The Original seal is suitable for gaps of up to 14mm
- The XL seal is ideal for larger or uneven gaps, sealing up to 24mm
Thanks to its flexible design, the seal can compress to accommodate slight variations in floor levels while still maintaining a strong, watertight barrier.

Will it work with my garage door type?

Can the seal be cut to size?

The material is designed to be trimmed using standard tools, allowing you to customise the length to match your exact door width. This makes it ideal for non-standard openings or situations where a precise fit is required.
For best results, we recommend measuring carefully before cutting and following our installation guidelines.
Can it be used with electric garage doors?
Yes — Weather Defender® is fully compatible with electric (automated) garage doors.
The seal is fitted directly to the floor, rather than the door itself, so it won't interfere with the opening or closing mechanism. Its flexible design allows the door to close securely against the seal, creating a tight, watertight barrier without putting strain on the motor.
It works effectively with all electric door types, including roller, sectional, and up & over systems.
Is Weather Defender suitable for uneven floors?
Yes — Weather Defender® is specifically designed to work effectively on uneven garage floors.
Its flexible, solid PVC construction allows the seal to compress where needed, helping it adapt to slight variations in floor levels while still creating a watertight barrier. For garages with more noticeable unevenness, the XL seal is recommended, as its increased height provides greater coverage and flexibility.
For best results, choose the seal size based on the largest gap under your door, and ensure it is installed following our fitting guidelines.

How easy is it to install Weather Defender®?
Installing Weather Defender® is quick and straightforward, making it ideal for DIY installation.
The seal is supplied with a strong adhesive, so there's no need for drilling or specialist tools. Simply position the seal, apply the adhesive, and secure it in place following the step-by-step instructions provided.
Most installations can be completed in a short amount of time, and you'll see immediate results — helping to keep your garage dry, clean, and protected straight away.
If needed, we also provide installation guidance, and our team is always on hand to help.
How long does installation take?
Installation typically takes around 1 hour, depending on the size of your garage and surface preparation.
Once fitted, we recommend allowing the adhesive to fully cure for 24 hours before driving over the seal. This ensures a strong, long-lasting bond and the best possible performance.
What tools are required for installation of the seal?
Installing Weather Defender® is simple and requires only basic tools:
- Tape measure (to measure and position the seal correctly)
- Marker or pencil (for accurate placement)
- Straightedge or long ruler
- Sharp knife or hacksaw (to cut the seal to size if needed)
- Disposable Gloves
- Sealant/adhesive gun (to apply the adhesive provided)
Before installation, make sure the floor is clean, dry, and free from dust or grease to ensure the best possible bond.
No specialist tools or drilling are required, making it ideal for DIY fitting.
Does it require drilling?
No — Weather Defender® does not require any drilling or screws.
The seal is installed using a high-strength adhesive, allowing it to bond securely to the garage floor without the need for tools or permanent fixings. This makes installation quicker, cleaner, and ideal for DIY fitting.
Just apply the adhesive as instructed, position the seal, and allow it to cure for a strong, long-lasting hold.
What adhesive is used, and is it included?
Weather Defender® seals are supplied with a high-strength adhesive designed to create a secure, long-lasting bond between the seal and your garage floor.
Yes — the appropriate adhesive is included with most seal kits, so you'll have everything you need for installation right out of the box.
For optimal performance, we recommend applying the adhesive carefully according to the fitting instructions and allowing it to fully cure before use.
Can I remove or reposition the seal after installation?
Once installed, Weather Defender® is designed to form a permanent, watertight bond with the garage floor using a strong adhesive.
While it is possible to remove the seal, doing so may require effort and could damage the adhesive bond or the seal itself. Repositioning after the adhesive has been applied is not recommended, as it may affect performance and the ability to create a proper seal.
For best results, we recommend carefully positioning the seal before fixing it in place and following the installation instructions closely.
Can it be installed on any garage floor surface?
Weather Defender® can be installed on most common garage floor surfaces, including concrete, screed, painted floors, and sealed surfaces.
For best results, the surface should be clean, dry, and free from dust, oil, or loose debris before installation. Proper surface preparation ensures the adhesive bonds correctly and delivers a long-lasting, watertight seal.

How long does delivery take?
We offer next working day delivery across mainland UK for all Weather Defender® orders.
- Order before 2pm → dispatched the same day for next business day delivery
- Order after 2pm → delivered within 2 business days
- Orders placed after 2pm on Friday → dispatched on the next working day
All orders are sent via a tracked courier service, and a signature is required on delivery for added security.
